There's nothing more mainstream conservative American, more red state than blue, than professional football and the news that Rush Limbaugh is too controversial, too much of an extremist to be considered as a potential owner of the St. Louis Rams should be carefully digested by Republicans, especially those elected officials who heed his every call. This should be a reality check for the fevered wingers, as well.
Let's check in on how the wingers are coping with reality:
Earlier this evening, as most of you now know, one of our own, Rush Hudson Limbaugh, while taking withering fire, crashed and burned.
Tonight, Rush is no longer ‘just’ a radio personality.
Tonight, Rush is no longer ‘just’ a NFL owner denied
Tonight, Rush is us. And we are him.
Tonight Rush became the metaphor for all of us… every man woman and child in this great nation of ours...
Tonight the left proved that they will stop at nothing to end our dreams.
Yes, it is a shame that race relations in this country won't benefit from seeing on Sundays the high-definition image broadcast of a man sitting in a luxury box fondling a cigar like Boss Hogg who cajoles that Obama's America -- not his America -- is exemplified by white students getting beaten up by black students. What's particularly galling is the right's ability to take pity on itself by locking in on the idea that Rush has been punished for being a conservative. That's not true. He's being punished for being a white populist who has gotten disgustingly wealthy by calling on the dark forces of the Republican Party.
